Composer
Ebony Tay studied composition and music theory at The Juilliard School.
Several of her fourth-year compositions were selected for productions at Lincoln Center and off Broadway. These include The North Star, an atonal piece that premiered at Juilliard’s Martin Luther King celebration, and Maasai Queen, an Off-Broadway dance production scored for piano, violin, and dual percussion.
She is the first woman of color to score a theatrically-released feature film, Hate Crime (Image Entertainment). She has also composed for Sedona, starring Frances Fisher (Titanic), Beth Grant (The Mindy Project), and Lin Shaye (Insidious).
Tay recently composed music and created sound effects for the web series The EXpert. The score features members of The Roots Crew from The Tonight Show. Like the sound effects, it presents unique sound samples and melodies—sometimes played in reverse—to support actress Jennifer Bareilles’ performance.
